Banditos Gaming Member Spotlight: Sarah!
At Banditos Gaming, we love celebrating the unique individuals that bring our community to life. This month, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Sarah, a history buff from Hawthorne, New Jersey with a passion for strategy board games and connecting with friends over game nights. Sarah's journey in gaming is as fascinating as her love for board games and her growing collection of Lenox Spice Villages!
Meet Sarah
Hometown: Hawthorne, NJ
Occupation/Field of Study: History/Museum Studies
Favorite Quote: "Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the entire forest.”
Fun Fact About Yourself: When I was a freshman in college, we had to go to a specific class designed for freshmen. One of our assignments was to create a board game. I essentially redesigned the game LIFE but with college related scenarios and way more consequences. Within my class, so many people loved it that someone offered me money for it!
Getting into Gaming
Growing up with four siblings, Sarah was no stranger to the fun and creativity that games could bring. Her love for games grew even more through shared experiences with friends and her partner, Harley. For Sarah, gaming became a way to bond with others and explore different strategies that would often change her perspective on familiar games.
Favorite Games & Current Obsessions
While Sarah enjoys all kinds of games, her true love lies in strategy board games. She finds it exciting to see how others approach games differently and loves it when a new player’s strategy opens her eyes to a fresh perspective. Currently, Sarah is enjoying Planted, a game she discovered during a game night, and now plays regularly with her sister and her roommates. This cute game, with its captivating artwork, has become a staple in her gaming collection.
Lately, Sarah and Harley have also been obsessing over The Genius Star, and she’s embarking on an exciting new Dungeons & Dragons (DND) campaign with her college friends.
Banditos Gaming Journey
Sarah’s involvement with Banditos Gaming began through Harley, but her love for the community quickly blossomed. Although she can only attend events when her schedule allows, she cherishes the opportunity to meet new people and be a part of a growing community that shares her passion for games.
One of Sarah’s most memorable experiences at Banditos Gaming happened at the Palisades Mall during the inaugural Rock Con event when she didn’t win a raffle for the game Kibble Scuffle, a cute cat-themed game. However, in a heartwarming gesture, the raffle winner gave Sarah the game, which she’s now played countless times with her family. This act of kindness has become a lasting memory and is a testament to the generosity and camaraderie that Banditos Gaming fosters.
Building Community Through Games
Sarah believes that board games can bridge generational gaps and strengthen relationships. One of her favorite moments was playing Mind the Gap, a pop culture trivia game, with her family, spanning generations from Boomers to Gen Z. The game’s trivia sparked laughter, challenges, and new memories, bringing everyone closer together.
Sarah also highlights how games foster community development through teamwork and cooperation, helping to build social skills and deepen personal connections. Though, as she humorously adds, gaming can sometimes lead to a little good-natured yelling depending on the group!
Beyond the Games
Outside of gaming, Sarah’s creative side shines through her love of sewing, scrapbooking, and using her Cricut machine for crafting. Her hobbies reflect the same thoughtful and detail-oriented nature she brings to her gaming adventures.
Sarah embodies the spirit of Banditos Gaming, where games are more than just entertainment – they are a way to connect, learn, and grow. We’re excited to have Sarah as a valued member of our community and look forward to many more game nights with her!
